  • Figuring Out Where to Move

real-estate-4Moving is hard at the best of times.  Figuring out where to move, even if the general location has been decided for you, can be even more difficult, not to mention scary.  You need to know as much as possible before you ever set foot in your new place.

If it is possible, go to some open houses in the area where you will be moving — not just to look at the houses in question, either.

You will be able to check out the neighborhood and ask questions.  Because, you see, there is a lot you need to know before you make a concrete choice of the neighborhood to which you will move.

You need to know about hospitals, school, job growth, crime rates.  A little research can go a long way at a time like this.

  • Finding Pet Friendly Housing!

big_dogFinding a home is not easy.  We all know that, but the challenge that I am finding right now is finding a rental home that is pet-friendly.  Currently, I am going to be relocating to Boston and I am really trying to find a place that is going to accommodate my two dogs and two cats – are you having a similar problem?  Probably if you are an animal lover like me.

Well, there are some things that you can do and one is to arm yourself with knowledge.  Make sure that you know everything about the property you are trying to get and really use those negotiating skills that you have to get the landlord to back down – in most cases, they will.

Next, really look around and do not settle.  Your pets are definitely part of you, at least for me they are and you shouldn’t have to compromise them to have a nice place – look around!

  • The Benefits of Home Improvements

renovationAt the moment, due to the economy in general and the housing industry in particular, it might seem like renovating your home or do any improvements would be pointless, if not downright impossible. Why bother, first of all? Why bother to raise the property value? Because by and large, almost any home renovation, from putting down new carpets to adding an addition, to improving your bathroom, will raise the value of your home. You may have no desire to sell right now, you may think it would not sell if you did, but just remember: the housing market will not be this way forever.

Truthfully, improving your house is apt to make the whole neighborhood better, even if you only paint the outside of your house. That might entice buyers to other properties, you know, which could improve the economy where you live.

And actually, this may be one of the best times to renovate, if you need help for the job. Contractors and carpenters know things are in a slump, they know they cannot really afford to charge exorbitant prices — because we cannot really afford to pay them.
